IBN Sina Medical College (ISMC) is a private medical school in Bangladesh that was established in 2005. It is located in the Kallyanpur area of Mirpur Model Thana, in Dhaka. IBN Sina Medical College is affiliated with the University of Dhaka and recognized by the Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council, the competent authority of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The college is one of the best options for students who wish to study MBBS in Bangladesh.
The college’s 14-storey building also houses a teaching hospital with 250 beds. Construction is underway on a second 16-story hospital on campus that will add 500 beds. The availability of a hospital on campus allows the students to closely study the disease patterns and get hands-on experience of the working of the healthcare system in Bangladesh. The hospitals also ensure the availability of medical help to the students in case of any emergency during their stay while pursuing MBBS in Bangladesh.
The college offers a five-year course of study. The MBBS programme in IBN Sina Medical College is approved by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC). The course leads to a degree of Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Dhaka University.
The academic activities of IBN Sina Medical College commenced through the admission of 50 students in the 2004-05 academic session. Through the years up to 2018, 14 batches of a total of 810 students have undertaken the course.
IBN Sina Medical College has highly qualified doctors with great work ethics, having the most advanced knowledge in the field of medicine and being capable of administering biological science through the use of modern technology.
A new hospital building has just started with a 350-bed capacity adjacent to the academic building. It is a 14 storied building with modern amenities and facilities for all sorts of patients which gives the better opportunity for practical learning for students.
The existing ISMC academic building is a 14 storeyed structure covering an area of 1,29,000 sq. ft. Each floor comprises of 9,214 sq. ft area which accommodates academic facilities separately. In general, each department has one dedicated floor containing galleries, tutorial rooms, laboratories, museums and teachers’ rooms. In addition, there are canteen, common room, information centre, guardians’ waiting room and prayer facilities. The 7th floor is the heart of this building comprising the Principal’s office, conference room, teachers’ lounge, administrative wings and the library.
IBN Sina Medical College has an air-conditioned 1750 sqft resourceful library on the 7th floor of the academic building. It has got more than 4391 volumes of Reference books, Textbooks, Periodicals, Printed and Electronic versions of National and International Journals. There are separate reading areas for the students as well as teachers. It is also equipped with Wi-Fi facilities to help students with their research work during their MBBS in Bangladesh course. The college has an Index-Journal ”Bangladesh Journal of Medical Science” which is indexed in several organizations like Scopus Elsevier, Thomson Reuters, British Library, Hinari/WHO, Index Copernicus, Cross Ref. etc. Very soon this library will be shifted to a single floor of 8900 sqft area where the separate area for students and teachers will be provided.
